Three Ways to Educate Your Child at Home
Enroll in a Private School
Your child can enroll in a private school that supports learning at home, such as FACE. Families enrolled in FACE do not file a Notice of Intent. Parents choose the curriculum, set the schedule, and guide daily learning. FACE keeps school records and provides services based on the enrollment option selected. Per current Board of Education guidance, families are welcome to be enrolled in a private school like FACE and still participate in public enrichment, provided they also file a notice of intent.

File a Notice of Intent
Parents can file a Notice of Intent with a Colorado school district. You may file with any school district in the state. The notice must be filed at least 14 days before you begin homeschooling. A new notice must be filed each year. Parents are responsible for following Colorado homeschool law and keeping the required records.

Use a Colorado Teaching License
A parent with a current Colorado teaching license may teach their own children under the licensed-teacher option. Some licensed teachers still choose FACE for school records, classes, community, or high school services.

Getting Started
You Do Not Need to Buy Everything Today
It can be tempting to buy a full curriculum package right away. Take time to learn what works for your family first.
Before you buy, ask:
- How does my child learn best?
- Does my child like books, videos, projects, or a mix?
- How much structure does our family need?
- How much time can I give to planning and teaching?
- What are my child’s goals?
- Does this program fit our schedule and budget?
When possible, look at samples or try a short lesson before buying a full year.
Choose Curriculum That Fits Your Child
FACE does not require every family to use the same curriculum. Parents choose the books, programs, classes, and learning methods that fit their children.
Your plan might include:
- Textbooks and workbooks
- Online lessons
- Library books
- Hands-on projects
- Tutors or community classes
- Educational trips
- Art, music, sports, or job skills
You do not have to copy a traditional classroom at home. A good plan should meet your child’s needs and help your family reach its goals.
Make a Simple Plan
You do not need a perfect plan before you begin.
Start with:

- The subjects your child will study
- The curriculum or resources you plan to use
- A weekly learning schedule
- A simple way to track attendance and schoolwork

Where do I find materials to teach my kids?
FACE does not provide curricula, nor do we dictate what curricula you use. The good news is there are tons of places to find curricula online. These range from large distributors that stock a wide variety of companies to individual subject-specific publishers. Some websites are even free! Here are a few ideas to start you on your search.
